Tsuga heterophylla This hemlock was collected in 1965 by Jimmy Nakahara. It was estimated to be 35 years old at that time. The Puget Sound Bonsai Association adopted this tree as its logo in the late 1970's. It was acquired by the PACIFIC RIM BONSAI COLLECTION in 1989.

 Bald cypress Vaughn Banting collected this cypress in a swamp in the New Orleans area in 1995. It had been struck by lightening.  

 

 

Pyracantha This firethorn, exposed root style was imported from Korea in 1998.

 European hornheam This is one of the first plantings created by Connie Diderian a noted teacher and lecturer of bonsai on the east coast. This composition was put together at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The trees are over fifty years old  

  Juniper horizontalis This shrub also called the 'Blue Rug' juniper is one of the many forms of creeping juniper which are native to the northern US and most of Canada. This particular "Blue Rug" variety comes from the coast of New England. The artist purchased it from a general nursery as a big mop in a five gallon container in the summer of 2001.
