Demonstration by John Biel

Japanese Black Pine, Pinus thunbergii

Wiring has begun.

It is the practice to use the heaviest (largest size) wire first and then go on to the next smallest and the next smallest. As little wire as possible should be used in wiring a tree.

If more than one wire is needed on a branch, the second wire should be coiled touching the first wire.

Wiring should be neat.

While it will take a bit longer, my intention is to wire every branch and branchlett because that will allow me to position them exactly where I want them.

Back of tree with some of the lower branches wired but not positioned.

Enjoy the nice movement of the trunk while I rummage around looking for the right size of wire!

About half the main branches are wired at this stage.
